The Lucerne city neighborhood organizations (Quartiervereine) support the local residents. They organize parties or events to help the people in the community feel at home and become better acquainted. The neighborhood offices (Quartierbüros) that are located in some areas are an initial place to turn to, especially for families with children.

Volunteers work free of charge in fields such as culture, the environment, sports, politics, neighborhood service, as well as social, church, and many other areas of our society. Further information on volunteer work is available from the agency Benevol Luzern.
Caritas Luzern also has an extensive list of opportunities for volunteer activities.
For one hour every six weeks, the FUKA-Kiosk offers Lucerners free tickets for cultural events, publications, CDs, etc. The bargains are distributed at the Heiliggeist Chapel (Heiliggeistkapelle) in City Hall Park (Stadthauspark, entrance at Hirschengraben 17b).
With the Lucerne Museum Card (Luzerner Museums-Pass), you can visit as many museums as you wish on two consecutive days. Many of the museums and institutions also offer year-long memberships or family discounts.
The culture pass (KulturLegi) allows persons with low incomes to obtain discounts for many cultural, sports, educational, and leisure activities.
The community Day-ticket (Tageskarte Gemeinde) is valid for free transportation on all federal train (SBB) and post-bus routes as well as most private railways, public transportation in the cities, and many boat companies in Switzerland.
Many season passes, such as the railway Halbtax-Abo (SBB travelcards and tickets), offer discounted rates.
